It’s March 15th, and that means my latest book is now available! I poured a lot of darkness and unfiltered weirdness into this novella of grief horror, and I’m so excited to finally share it with the world.
When I began writing In Excess of Dark, the original working title was “The Fucked Up, Creepy, Weird-Ass Novel with No Title.”
Fortunately, since I began writing in September 2022, the book has taken on a better title, and it evolved into something even darker and more screwed up than I’d imagined.
It’s been a pleasure working with my publisher, DarkLit Press, who got this book in front of the eyes of hundreds of reviewers through social media and NetGalley. It raked in over 100 ratings on Goodreads before it released, with a 4.3 star average. Not too shabby for this weird little book.
I poured a lot of passion into this story. There were times when I felt that I should pull back because readers may not appreciate where I was going with it, but instead, I leaned into the craziness. I stayed true to the very close POV of the main character and followed her into oblivion.
This book is dark with on-the-page gore and a deep dive into the mind of a person who has lost more than she can handle. It digs up her intrusive thoughts, suicidal ideations, and stomps through her pain without relent. Some people have had to put the book down for a bit because they’d recently experienced loss, and they weren’t in the right headspace to read it. And some have thanked me for writing it because it encouraged them NOT to become the character in the book by sitting alone for too long in their ever-growing darkness.
